Award-winning miniaturist Penny Thompson is well known for her extraordinary figures and buildings created in 1/12th and 1/24th scale from Paper maché. Amongst the historical characters are found a host of faeries and fantasy folk including fauns and mermaids. Penny’s wonderfully wonky tree house is a firm favourite and her range of automata (a collaboration with Laurence St Ledger) are ingenious. The faeries’ wings flap up and down as the handle is turned, bringing the scene to life. Most of the automata and scenes are housed in glass domes making them wonderful display pieces, but my heart yearns for a tree house complete with faery family!

No details have been overlooked in the creation of this fantasy, which includes a life-size indoor tree, lamps shaped like flowers, pixie house wall shelves and mushroom stools.
