In a sense, you don't "need" anything but your hands when sculpting. But if you want better details with less effort, certain tools are great to have around when sculpting. I will list most tools available for help with your sculptures, but you certainly don't need all of them. Depending on what you are sculpting, some tools are better suited than others. When I sculpt my dolls, I have only a handful of tools that I use.
