The City of Roses

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

Kip Manley’s ‘serialized phantastick on the ten thousand things & the one true only’, City of Roses is an epic urban fantasy set in the city of Portland, Oregon. Jo Maguire, a highly strung, underemployed telemarketer meets Ysabel, a princess of unspecified pedigree. Jo rather unexpectedly becomes Ysabel’s guardian and caretaker, and now must make her way through the strange subculture of Ysabel’s decidedly odd family and friends (which involves rather more swordplay than she’s used to) – while Ysabel must now deal with a diet of frozen pizza and a job that requires her to call strangers on the phone and ask them how satisfied they are with their banks.
Thus far it has been published Dickensian-style in a series of chapbooks (14 in total so far). But you can now buy volume one “Wake Up…” (collecting the first 11 chapters) as a trade paperback or digital edition for those with e-readers.
