(A Week later) Carla Lawson (who has, since her divorce from her husband some fifteen-years prior, taken back her maiden name) sits back in a wooden chair by her window looking out it, down three floors. Eyes drooping, remembering her years of marriage, her husband's drinking, and staying out late, the years he was in the Army, in Germany, and when she had joined him.

In the last ten or fifteen years, close-up magic has taken the world by storm. Since the late nineties it has become progressively popular, due for the most part to David Blaine and his ground-breaking TV specials and DVDs. Blaine made magic cool again.
