Retro covers a broad range of styles, fashions, ideas and attitudes but the one thing that ties them all together is the label of charisma and quirkiness applied to each genre of retro. It is an expression or recreation of the past and often implies a sense of nostalgia giving us the opportunity to reminisce or experience a part of our history. Fashion, music, sportswear, hairstyles, art, toys, architecture, transport and even erotica are all examples of the genres that offer inspiration to those followers of the retro movement.

In the Shunga prints that were produced during the 17th and 18th Century the emphasis of the images was on the expression of excitement, lust and love showing sex on a voluntary basis by both partners.
