Buch der Balladen

German ‘Pagan Folk’ group Faun have released a new acoustic album called Buch der Balladen. The CD contains 11 songs inspired by tales of trolls and elves, dragons and nymphs, including a version of La Belle Dame Sans Merci. It comes in a sumptuous digipak that has been designed to look like an old book. There are 44 pages of artwork and the lyrics in both German and English, and a wonderful John Bauer illustration on the cover.

The Pot-Bellied Dinosaur Versus the Muscle-Bound Dragon

Dragons are undergoing a transformation from being pot-bellied to the more lean and muscular type. Although much of its dinosaur features are being retained, like the horns, caudal spikes and plates, the pot-belly is being relegated to the dinosaur. The article also explains in some detail, albeit hypothetically, how the idea of the pot-belly was developed for both dinosaur and dragon.

Royal Mail’s latest stamp collection features six mythical creatures drawn from the UK’s rich folklore and legends. Dragons and Unicorns grace the 1st class stamps, with Giants, Pixies, Mermaids and Fairies on the 62p and 90p stamps. The artwork is by celebrated illustrator Dave McKean (well known for his Sandman comic covers amongst others). These special stamp collections are only available for a limited time, so if you are wanting to add a little fantasy to your correspondence, stock up now! Also available is a special presentation pack with all 6 mint stamps with creature commentary by Neil Gaiman, or a set of postcards featuring the illustrations.
