Our favourite faery gathering 3 Wishes Faery Fest is moving to a beautiful new venue for 2011. Mount Edgecumbe Counry Park in Cornwall is a stunning 800 acre estate including ancient woodland, a fairy folly, secret coves and deer park, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The festival will be centered around the Cedar Lawn which features a beautiful crystal and shell mermaids throne overlooking the site. It’s the perfect place to frolic in the Midsummer sunshine this 17th-19th June.
The lineup has also started to be announced – bands this year include 3 Daft Monkeys, The Dolmen, Daughters of Gaia, Freyia, Aero, Spriggan Mist, Elfin Spiral, Beneath The Oak, Malachite, Taking the Piskies, Elizabeth-Jane Baldry, Ziazan and more to be confirmed.

After four years in the making, the results of Karen Kay and Michael Tingle’s magical musical collaboration is being released this October 31st. Enchanted contains 10 beautifully crafted faerie songs singing of love and magic in the faerie realm. The pair approached the making of the album in a rather unconventional way, travelling to many of Cornwall’s beautiful sites in Michael’s mobile recording van to record Karen’s vocals. On our recent trip to Cornwall we spotted a sign for Carnglaze Caverns on our way to another attraction. As it turned out, that place was closed so we turned back and headed to the Caverns instead. The narrow winding road led through a beautiful wooded valley, and finally up a steep driveway we arrived at our destination. And what a surprise we had! Everywhere you look there are Faeries, peeking out at you from lush foliage. The acres surrounding the Caverns have been lovingly transformed into the most delightful Enchanted Dell, with creative landscaping and scores of Faerie sculptures (many by Enchanted). A woodland walk leads you to discover even more treasures, including a hobbit house and faces carved into tree stumps. In the early summer the carpet of bluebells covers 3 acres – Faerie magic indeed!
The Caverns themselves are fascinating too. They are actually old slate mines and you can now tour the three vast caverns and see the amazing blue/green subterranean lake which fills one of them. The smaller cavern is also used as a venue for concerts and craft fairs. Last year it played host to a Fairy Ball, which I can imagine was very apt for such a lovely place.
